Country Season

Season | 6.2% ALC. VOL | 31 IBU | Brewed in 2016

The Renano-Loitchouse experiment that awakens the young shepherd in you

The portrait

The Country Season? It's our ode to controlled pastoral chaos. We took an explosive sourdough from the Franches-Montagnes—imagine a culture of rebellious microbes raised in the great Jura air—and threw it into an improbable equation. In collaboration with the BFM brewery (Brasserie des Franches Montagnes).

Hay "bravely stolen" from an unwilling bull adds a touch of grass that catapults you straight into a freshly mown field. Nettles, "as uncooperative as the bull," pique your curiosity with their wild greenness. It's our version of agricultural parkour: we leap over conventional barriers to land in a meadow where wild yeasts are making waves.

At 6.2% and 31 IBU, it strikes a balance between strength and finesse. This Renano-Loitchouse collaboration (read: Renens meets the Franches-Montagnes) proves that you can make haute couture brewing with rubber boots. The result defies expectations: rustic yet refined, rustic yet complex.

The story

This Season was born from a desire to capture the very essence of the Jura terroir in a bottle. The idea for hay? A late-night stroke of genius after breathing in the air of the pastures. The nettles? Because every good countryside story involves getting stung while picking things.

Collaborating with artisans from the Franches-Montagnes region opened the doors to a fascinating microbiological universe. Their wild sourdough was like capturing the DNA of a centuries-old tradition and transporting it into our high-tech fermenters.

The bull story? Totally true. Our brewer really did have to negotiate with a territorial bovine to get some quality hay. The nettles counterattacked in their own way. But hey, no great beer without small battles.

Food and beer pairings

The sublime Country Season:

  • Well-aged farmhouse goat cheeses

  • Dandelion salad with bacon

  • Nettle quiche (revenge is a dish best served warm)

  • Country terrine and pickles

  • Risotto with wild mushrooms

  • Wild Herb Tart

  • In bucolic contemplation at sunset

The final word

La Saison Champêtre has joined the pantheon of our legendary creations, leaving behind a trail of hay and memories. This Renano-Loitchouse adventure proved that a country stroll could be transformed into a transcendent taste experience.

For those who tasted it, it was like drinking the very essence of a summer day in the Jura – with the added satisfaction of knowing that a bull and nettles had participated in the adventure. The young shepherd in you still remembers that sip that smelled of freedom and fresh grass.

Cheers! 🍻
