Kjetil
White IPA | 5% ALC. VOL | 70 IBU | Brewed in 2014
The Valkyrie with Nordic accents
The portrait
Kjetil? Our brewing tribute to the great Norwegian brewer of the same name. A White IPA that bursts forth with its blueberry color—yes, you read that right, blueberry. Not blonde, not amber, but that blue hue that turns heads and raises the eyebrows of purists.
Beneath this convention-defying robe lies a true Nordic warrior. 70 IBUs that strike like Thor's hammer, but with the grace of a Valkyrie. The dry body typical of White IPAs meets a duo of hops that doesn't mince words: Simcoe and Mandarina Bavaria. One brings its resinous and tropical notes, the other balances its citrus side with that particular bitterness that characterizes our creation.
This is our vision of a beer that navigates between the fjords of Belgian tradition (the wheat base) and the wild lands of American hopping. The result? An Éphémère that has left its mark as much for its improbable color as for its strong character.
The story
Born in our Ephemeral series, Kjetil pays homage to Kjetil Jikiun, this modern Viking brewer who pushes boundaries from his native Norway. Our interpretation? A White IPA that dares to use color where others only dare to use hops.
The Norwegian message on the label—"Høye fjell kaster lange skygger" (High mountains cast long shadows)—captures the essence of this creation. Like these Nordic mountains, Kjetil cast a shadow far larger than its size would suggest.
This beer embodied our philosophy of creative brewing: why do what everyone else does when you can surprise them?
Food and beer pairings
Kjetil's distinctive bitterness made it the perfect match for duck and game. This hoppy power cut through the fat of the confit duck like a Viking sword in... well, let's avoid graphic metaphors.
With the game, it was a match made in heaven. The resinous notes of the Simcoe conversed with the forest flavors of the meat, while the bitterness structured the whole. A pairing as natural as a reindeer in the tundra.
The final word
Kjetil remains in our memories as the Ephemeral that dared everything: the improbable color, the assumed bitterness, the international homage. A White IPA that proved that innovation could be achieved even in the most codified styles.
For those who encountered it between brews, it remains that unique experience of a beer unlike anything else. A brewing Valkyrie who reminds us why we love this profession so much: creating the unexpected, surprising palates, and sometimes, just sometimes, leaving an indelible mark.
